At the very beginning is getting in touch, either by writing, telephone, or in person. In the following information phase lasting at least 6-12 months, those interested can get more information about the Brothers of Mercy in brochures and articles and take advantage of opportunities in our order in Trier. A good way to do this is to stay in the convent for a limited amount of time.

The decision phase follows in conversations with the director of novices and the provincial. Concrete preparations for postulancy determined in consultation with the director of novices take up the at least six month time of candidacy. Regular visits are necessary. |

With postulancy, which usually lasts six months, the interested person enters the community. During a probationary period he is prepared for the noviate. |

The two-year noviate begins with vestiture and acceptance into the order. The novice receives a theological and spiritual formation and is prepared for his vows. |

The scholasticate (juniorate) is the last station to acceptance into the Order of the Brothers of Mercy. The first vow is made in two years and the second in three. Professional education belongs to this time as much as the continual spiritual and religious guidance. The final step is the vow for lifetime service (perpetual vow). |
